Spherical storage tank

Spherical storage tank refers to a storage tank with a spherical shell. It mainly consists of a spherical shell, a support, and auxiliary components. There are three types of spherical shell structures: single layer, double layer, and multi-layer. The spherical shell is formed by welding multiple pre pressed spherical plates into a certain shape. The main types of spherical tank plates are annular (melon petal) type and football type. Supports include pillar type, semi buried type, skirt type, etc. Auxiliary components include operating platforms, external ladders, manholes, and valves. The spherical tank used to store liquefied gas is also equipped with cooling spray, spray and fire insulation spray devices outside. For spherical tanks under pressure or vacuum, safety valves or vacuum valves are installed.

The advantage is that compared to other forms of storage tanks, spherical storage tanks require less steel plate consumption per unit volume. The disadvantage is that it is difficult to manufacture and assemble, and the welding quality is not easily guaranteed. Single layer spherical tanks are widely used to store pressurized liquefied gas and other gases. Double layer spherical tanks are used for low temperature and storage of products requiring cleanliness or highly corrosive media. Multilayer spherical tanks are used to store high-pressure liquids.
